FROG Student
|
Are you a FROG?
Each week the students will vote for who they think should be "Student of the Week". This selected student is called a "FROG" student because "FROG" is an acronym for:
F Friendly
R Respectful
O Outgoing Citizen
G Great Behavior
The students will then write letters to this special student and these letters will be bound in a special book for him or her to take home. This special student will also have a "FROG PLAQUE" to place on their desk letting eveyone know this student has been voted Student of the Week.

Step to a Million
|
Our class will be "stepping to a million" this year. In addition to our scheduled PE times, we will also be participating in physical activity periodically throughout the week. This physical activity will focus on walking, skipping, running, jumping, etc and will last 10 -15 minutes. Each time we participate in this extra physical acivity the students will wear a pedometer which will count their steps. When we are finished, the steps will be recorded and tallied. We are trying to make our goal of reaching one million steps by the end of the school year.
This aligns with the California PE Standards 3.1, 3.2, 3.6, & 3.7

Take Home Totes
|
"Take Home Totes" are themed bags filled with several reading books, flashcards, games, poetry, etc. Students will have an oppotunity to take home several bags over the year. Three students will each get to take a bag home on Thursday to share with their families over the weekend. Take Home Totes are due back the following Tuesday. Students who do not return the bag or all the items inside will not be allowed to take a book home again. These bags will be something your child looks forward to bringing home.

Rainbow Cards
|
The discipline system I use is called "Rainbow Cards". I adapted it from another second grade teacher and I have used it for many years. Students earn cards for good behavior and being on task. The first color the students can earn is red, followed by orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Once a student has made it to purple he/she can pick a healthy treat from the "Treat Jar" or a prize from the "Treasure Chest".

Traveling Backpack
|
Every child will have an opportunity to take home the "Traveling Backpack" this year. One student each week will take home the backpack and write a story of his or her choice. On Friday, the student will read his or her story to the class. Parents are encouraged to hear their child read his or her story to the class on Friday afternoon.
Students who complete the "Traveling Backpack" do not have to do the usual homework for the week but are encouraged to do so.

Book Orders
|
Book Orders will be sent home periodically throughout the school year. This is a great way to build your child's library at a reduced cost to you. Many of the books offered in the book clubs are reduced by a couple of dollars and each month there are several books offered for under a dollar. Many of the books can be purchased in sets and this is also a great value to you.
Many of these books are also Accelerated Reader books which means your child is able to take tests on these books at school. You can find out which books are Accelerated Reader by visiting our school library web site. Just type in the name of the book(s) to see if it is in our database and read the information below the book's title to see if it is an AR book.
