ePortfolios harness technology to provide a professional, organized, and easily accessible way to present student work.
ePortfolios are a dramatic method of documenting and making visible
- Student Achievement
- Educational Benefit
- Progress Monitoring for Response to Intervention (RtI)
- Authentic Assessment
Electronic portfolios (ePortfolios) bring students, general and special education teachers, administrators, and parents together to collaborate with one another to achieve IEP goals and document student growth. ePortfolios use technology to document pieces of authentic assessment and provide a professional, organized, and easily accessible way to present student work. All students at a site may create ePortfolios to document and showcase their learning and growth.
The CalSTAT ePortfolio Institute is the result of a collaborative effort between San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Curriculum and Instruction Division, RIMS CTAP, and West End SELPA. Funding from CalSTAT subsidizes a two-year program, providing institute presenters, materials including iPod Shuffles to facilitate site implementation of ePortfolios, scholarships to participating site teams, and follow-up technical assistance days throughout the two years.
CalSTAT is a special project of the California Department of
Education (CDE) that helps schools and families educate children and
young adults with special needs. The project assists CDE in achieving
the objectives of the State Improvement Grant (SIG). It works
collaboratively to bring research-based training to schools and
families, using workshops, online conferences, meetings, and
publications. Its activities encourage general education, special
education, and families to combine their efforts to improve education.
Finally, CalSTAT awards money to successful schools, teacher training
programs, and parent centers to improve the quality of education in
California, with funds coming from the California Department of
Education and other sources.
Funds for this project come in part from federal funds
awarded as a State Program Improvement Grant to California (CFDA
84.323A) allowed In Part D of Public Law 108-447, the Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), as amended in 2004. These dollars
are considered local assistance funds and will assist individuals
serving children birth to 22 years of age and their families.
