Our Classroom Economy

Our classroom runs based on an economy where students earn and spend Colonial Cash.  Cash is earned  in many ways.  Some examples are:  completing all homework, earning good grades on tests, tutoring other students, earning citizenship and academic awards, and a variety of other situations where I catch students being kind, helping others, and being the BEST students they can be.

Students will spend their Colonial Cash in a variety of ways.  Some are mandatory and some are by choice.  Each week, students will be charged a rental fee on their desk and chair.  They will also be charged for such things as not completing their homework, not returning their library books on time, using the bathroom during class time without a pass, having a messy desk, and not writing their name on their paper.  Fees on many offenses will be doubled if the offense is repeated too many times.  Furthermore, it will cost students a stiff fee if they have not reached their AR and AM goals at the end of the trimester.  I also reserve the right to charge other fees as it becomes necessary.

Students will have an opportunity once a week to spend their Colonial Cash on passes for classroom privileges such as sitting near a friend or at the teacher's desk, using markers, colored pencils, or a pen to complete their classwork for a day, wearing a hat, going shoeless, or chewing sugarless gum in class for a day.

To add another real-world element to our classroom economy, students will be required to fill out income tax forms at the end of each trimester, so they must budget accordingly throughout the trimester to ensure that they have enough money left to pay their taxes.

At the end of each trimester, students will be required to spend whatever Colonial Cash they have left.  We will have a classroom auction where they will make bids for items such as school supplies, fun accessories, books, and small toys.  Please help me make a successful auction for the class by contributing new items to put out for the children (no food items, please).  You may send these items in at any time throughout the trimester.  Thank you in advance for your support!
