I am a strong believer in homework.
Expect homework every single day.
Homework is due the day after it is assigned, unless otherwise noted. Please encourage good study habits by seeing to it that your child’s homework is completed daily, as late work will result in a lowered grade.
Here are some of the assignments you can expect to see on a regular basis. (This is a general plan, which is subject to change, as needed.)
Mondays:
Home Reading Log* (see note below regarding Reading Log)
Non-fiction reading comprehension worksheet
Practice spelling words 3 times each
Math
Math Basic Facts practice sheet
Tuesdays:
Home Reading Log
Spelling Packet (due on Friday)
Grammar worksheet
Math
Science Study Guide
Wednesdays:
Home Reading Log (Students will bring their Reading textbook home, as they will need it for Wednesday's Reading Log assignment, which will help prepare them for the Reading Summary test which will usually be given each Thursday.)
Spelling Packet (due on Friday)
Spelling Practice Test (parent must sign)
Math
Math Basic Facts practice sheet
Study for Science Test (Science Tests will usually be given each Thursday.)
Thursdays:

Get “Friday Folder” signed and return in on Monday
* Home Reading Log assignment: The Home Reading Log is one of your child’s most important homework assignments. Students are to read both of their library books every week. A parent must sign the Log before it is turned in. Reading Logs are due each Tuesday.
NOTE: Students will have the opportunity to check out two library books each week. They should keep those books in their backpack, so they can read them at school and at home. I will guide your child in selecting books at an appropriate reading level, so I will feel confident in expecting them to finish both books by the time we visit the library the next week. Your child will be expected to take AR tests on both of his/her library books every week.
Other Homework Assignments:
• Monthly Book Project: A different project will be assigned at the beginning of each month. Each month’s project will focus on a different genre of literature. Students may choose which book to use for their project, but it may not be a story we have read together in class. A Project Registration Form must be completed, signed by a parent, and turned in by the 15th of each month. The Projects are due the last school day of the month. Please help your child stay on track so they finish their book project on time, as late Book Projects will not be accepted.
• Current Events: Your child will report on a current event once each trimester.
Parents will always know exactly what homework has been assigned, because students are provided with an Agenda. They are responsible for recording their homework assignments in their Agenda each day. I will also post each day's homework right here on our website under the "What's for Homework Tonignt?" link. Just click here: http://www.sbcsseport.org/published/b/cl/bclark/weblog/2/
For each day students complete all their homework, they will receive one “gold nugget” in their “Wells Fargo Strongbox.” They may use these to purchase classroom privileges and items from our end-of-the-trimester Miner’s Dry-Goods Store.
