Accelerated Reader

To encourage students to accomplish all of the out-of-class reading necessary to achieve the state standard, our school utilizes the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. Students will have the opportunity to check out two library books each week. They should keep those books in their backpack, so they can read them at school and at home. Pages they read at home should be recorded on their Home Reading Log. I will guide your child in selecting books at an appropriate reading level, so I will feel confident in expecting them to finish both books by the time we visit the library the next week. Your child will be expected to take AR tests on both of his/her library books every week, and all students are expected to meet their grade-level AR point goal each trimester. At the end of each month, I will total up each student's points for that month and award in-class trophies to students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Those students get to proudly display the trophies on their desks for the entire next month.
